Biography
Dr. Muhammad Shakir is Chairman and Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Training, Faculty of Education, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan. He earned his Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Teacher Education from The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (2012) and completed his Post-Doctorate at the Child Development and Learning Difficulty Lab, UCL Institute of Education, University College London, United Kingdom (2020-2021).
His research interests encompass curriculum development, teacher education, literacy practices, and inclusive education. His research work also focuses particularly on improving educational quality through innovative instructional strategies, effective teacher training models, and the development of professional standards for educators. He is deeply committed to exploring the impact of educational reforms, policies, and quality assurance initiatives in Pakistan.
As a researcher and educator, Dr. Shakir takes a multidisciplinary approach that incorporates social literacy, civic education, and technology integration in both primary and higher education. His post-doctoral research at UCL focused on assessing civic literacy and critical thinking skills of primary grade students in Pakistan.
Dr. Shakir has supervised numerous Ph.D., M.Phil., and graduate research projects, with particular expertise in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies including SPSS, SmartPLS, NVivo, and EndNote. He has published extensively, with over 40 peer-reviewed articles in international journals covering topics such as teacher competencies based on national professional standards, civic and ethical education, inclusive teaching practices, and educational technology integration.
His professional contributions extend beyond academia. Dr. Shakir has served as a Module Writer and Resource Person for the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, developing curriculum planning materials for university teachers. He was instrumental in organizing the Higher Education International Conference (HEIC-2023) and has delivered training workshops on research methodology, data analysis, and academic writing. His community engagement includes volunteer work in adult literacy programs, civic and voter education projects, and educational initiatives in underserved regions of Pakistan.
Dr. Shakir has presented his research at numerous international conferences in the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Cyprus. He serves on editorial boards of several international education journals and is an active member of professional organizations including the Teaching and Education Research Association and the International Reading Association.
His dedication to educational excellence and his extensive work in teacher education, curriculum development, and inclusive education practices make him a valuable contributor to discussions on educational transitions and strategic transformations in practice which is the core theme of the Chicago Summit 2026.
